Tell Me Something Tuesday - Etiquette Style

Do you know how to properly set a table for dinner? So simple, yet knowing what goes where is so important! To start off, the presentation plate, also known as a charger, goes on the bottom of the plates. Above that is the dinner plate, topped off with a salad plate. All flatware should be about a half inch apart. The proper silverware setting has one rule to follow by: set the table in the order it will be used, from outside in. First comes the salad fork on to the left of the plate. In between the salad fork and the plate, the dinner fork would be placed. On the right side of the plate goes dinner knife, then the soup spoon on the outside. Dessert utensils are horizontally above the plate. The water glass should be placed to the right of the plate, just above the knife. Wineglasses should be set to the right of the water glasses, if being used. The bread plate will be placed above the forks, with the knife on top.

Happy St Joseph's Day

St. Joseph's Day is a Roman Catholic feast day commemorating the life of St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus and husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

St. Joseph's Day is celebrated on March 19th every year.
If you cannot make this yummy treat yourself you can get this pastry at almost any Italian Bakery. Our Favorite Bakery is hands down Pasticceria Bruno in New York and Staten Island. You will not believe how amazing their yummy Italian pastries and cakes are... Tell them Pink Monkey sent you  http://www.pasticceriabruno.com/

Here is how to make this yummy treat

Ingredients:
CREAM PUFF SHELLS
2 3/4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups water
6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) butter
3 1/2 tablespoons lard (butter may be used, if desired)
6 large eggs

CREAM FILLING
1/4 cup potato starch or cornstarch
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large egg yolks
1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract

GARNISH
Confectioner's sugar
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 425ºF (220ºC). Grease and flour a cookie sheet or line with parchment paper.

Cream Puff Shells
Sift the flour, salt, and baking soda together and set aside.

In a heavy saucepan, heat the water, add the butter and lard, and when melted, remove pan from the stove and add the flour mixture all at once. Beat with a wooden spoon, then return the pan to medium-high heat, beating the mixture until it comes away from the sides of the pan. Remove the pan from the heat and add the eggs one at a time, beating with a wooden spoon or hand mixer to blend each in well before adding the next egg.

Fill a pastry bag fitted with a 1/2-inch plain nozzle with some of the cream puff mixture. Squeeze out 1 1/4-inch puffs about 1/2 inch apart on cookie sheet. Bake the cream puffs in preheated 425ºF (220ºC) oven for about 20 minutes or until golden brown. When done, carefully slit the side of each cream puff with a knife to allow steam to escape and prevent the puffs from becoming soggy inside. Transfer the cream puffs to cooling racks.

Cream Filling
In a small bowl, mix the potato starch (or cornstarch, if using) and sugar for the filling. Set aside.

In a medium saucepan, heat the milk and butter over medium-high heat until the butter melts. Add the starch mixture and cook over medium heat until it starts to thicken, about 2 minutes. Remove the mixture from the heat and slowly add the eggs, beating well. Return the mixture to the heat for just a few seconds to cook the mixture, being careful not to scramble the eggs. Pour the filling into a bowl, add the almond extract, and blend. Cover with buttered waxed paper and refrigerate until ready to use.

To Serve
Use a small knife to cut off the top third of each cream puff. Add about 2 teaspoons filling (more if the puffs are larger), replace the tops, and put puffs on a decorative platter. Dust with confectioner's sugar and serve immediately.

Makes about 48 Zeppole.

Variation:
Fill cream puffs with jam, chocolate cream filling, or ice cream. Drizzle chocolate sauce over the top and place a maraschino cherry over each Zeppoli, instead of confectioners' sugar.
Happy St. Joseph's Day!!!

Thirsty Thursday - St Patrick's Style!

Happy Thirsty Thursday!

St Patrick's Day is coming up on Monday so why not start the celebration with a St Patrick's Day float! Your kids will be thrilled to enjoy the special treat after school! Add lime sherbet and sprite in a glass or glass mason jar with green sprinkles on the rim. So simple yet so sweet. Feeling creative? Top it off with an apple or pineapple in the shape of a shamrock. All you need is a shamrock cookie cutter from a local food store to turn the sliced apple/pineapple into the shamrock garnish! If, on the other hand you're feeling lazy, run over to McDonald's and get the famously known Shamrock Shake!

Wedding Wednesday - the Ombre Effect

Happy Wedding Wednesday!

The Ombre effect has become so popular and fashionable. Rather than have a bold pink throughout the theme of the wedding, switch it up with the Ombre theme! It creates a pallet of colors that blend and fade so well together usually leading to a white or light color, which can coincide with your dress! For example, all you have to do is order name cards in three different shades of pink, light, medium and dark and place them from dark to light creating this artsy effect. You can do the same with chair covers for the ceremony as well. This will add texture and layering to the trendy theme. Be sure to ask for the ombre effect for the cake too!

Make Something Monday - Invites Only! Edition

Having a party? Need to send invites? We have a great way to really make an impression on your guests. Most invites come with blah white envelopes. Swap out the plain white envelopes for a really pretty color or coordinated envelope to your theme. You can also add a colorful liner so when they open the invite there is a great pop of color. We love paper presentation for all of our color envelopes and liners. Believe it or not it really is less then you probably think. We did these save the dates for a client who had a New York Themed wedding with grey and orange as their colors. We also added for their return address the New York Skyline. The guests will certainly feel the vibe when they receive this save the date! Enjoy xox

Supplies you will need for this look:
double sided tape, envelopes, liner, ribbon, save the date magnet and some time

Tell Me Something Tuesday - Lemon and Lime Spring Edition

We have gotten such great feedback on our Lemon and Lime arrangement, we wanted to share it with you. In this arrangement we added full lemons to the bottom to fill it up and then added the cut limes to the top. For the cut limes we used tooth in each end to keep them intact to each other. We used a ribbon to separate the lemons from the limes on the outside. Then we added our water to the vase. For the top arrangement we used a clear plastic floral dish to the top. We wanted to keep the look of the lemons and limes clean so you did not see the flower stems. In the clear dish we used oasis foam to make the arrangement so it would stay nice and neat.
